I am a collector since last 7 years and i have a collection of about 2000 stamps i want to know the way i can join international exhibitions in USA and other countries and if any company or organisation can sponsor me. Moreover i am interested to know if i can take this hobby as proffesion.

Each country has a Philatelic Society (hope I spelled it right). And Im sure they will have an office in major cities. Just check your Yellow Pages or some Directory Service and you can get their number. They will provide you with all information.

Remember Stamp Collection is an hobby, but making it as a profession means you have to have some good links, contacts, and not to mention funds to sponsor yourself till you find some organisation funding you.

I don’t suppose children collect stamps these days, but when I was a kid, most people had an album.

I wasn’t obsessive, but I was quite interested for a while, and got a really manky tatty old album at a jumble sale for a few pence when I was about 10. It had about 300 old stamps in, so my collection had a lot of older stuff in it than most kids in the 80s. I had quite a lot of more modern colourful stamps too, but I was quite drawn to these stamps from another era.

I haven’t looked at them in donkeys’ years. I got them down now because I was looking for an interesting old stamp to put in a matchbox for a matchbox-stuffing challenge.

coil is when the stamp is shaped differently than a square stamp. re-engraved is when it was not aproved by the U.S. stamp assosiation but is put to sale for collecting reasons
